Graduate make-up artists can work in beauty studios, at weddings and events, in the film and TV industry, in the theater, on fashion shoots and editorial productions, as brand beauty experts or as independent make-up artists. Workshop management and training courses are also popular areas of employment.

Is it also possible to work as a self-employed make-up artist?

Yes, many qualified make-up artists work independently and offer their services for weddings, photo shoots, events or private clients. Self-employment offers flexible working hours, creative freedom and higher earning potential. The internationally recognized diploma supports your professional appearance.

Do I need a trade license as a make-up artist in Austria?

For purely decorative make-up services (without invasive skin treatments) in Austria, you need a "Cosmetics (beauty care)" competence test limited to decorative cosmetics. A regulated trade with a corresponding trade license is required for cosmetic and skin treatment activities. Registration takes place at the responsible municipal authority or district authority.
