Special Physiology and Pathology (SEN)
Throughout our lives, we go through various stages of physiology. There's puberty, during which we undergo physical and hormonal changes. In our fertile phase, we can conceive children. And as we age, various physical changes occur, ultimately leading us to death.
Special Physiology and Pathology is a subject taught as part of the Senior Trainer Training. We focus on the aspects of anatomy and physiology relevant to training older adults, to understand the reasons for health problems and how they can be countered with exercise and movement. We will examine how the body changes from the age of 30 and which training interventions can be specifically tailored to it.
Topics covered include age-specific changes and processes in the sensory organs, musculoskeletal system, and hormone balance, as well as their effects on posture and gait. This knowledge is important for our participants to know and greatly advantageous, as it enables them to understand the causes of diseases and injuries and thus better prevent or counteract them.
As people age, their heart rate decreases, the heart becomes larger and weaker, and the circulation of the heart and blood vessels deteriorates. The likelihood of suffering from heart diseases increases with age. It's important to keep the cardiovascular system fit to reduce the risk of diseases.
Understanding these physiological changes is crucial for conducting targeted training interventions. Special attention is paid to metabolic diseases such as gout, diabetes, and weight problems in old age.
