Fasting training is a popular topic of discussion among endurance athletes. Some find it very effective in improving fat metabolism, while others complain about the subjectively low performance during training.
The method is also popular with overweight people, where it is promoted as a proven way to lose a few kilos of fat a little faster.
What is the idea behind fasting training?
Overnight, the carbohydrate stores in the liver and muscles are depleted so that the body can maintain its blood sugar levels. In the morning, these are therefore depleted. You try to take advantage of the lack of muscle glycogen by starting your endurance training in the morning without breakfast and thus getting the body to produce energy from fats more quickly.
