Sports Massage

These are our most frequently asked questions Sports Massage

What does a sports masseur do?

A sports masseur looks after athletes and supports them in the areas of performance and regeneration. In addition to sports massage and fatigue relief massage, the areas of responsibility also include classic and kinesio taping. Sports masseurs are also trained in the field of sports traumatology and competition preparation.

How do you become a sports masseur?

The training to become a sports masseur is divided into 2 simple steps. In the basic sports competence module, participants first learn the basics of anatomy, physiology and sports injuries. Nutrition, sports psychology, training theory and much more are also covered. This module takes place online using HD learning videos, scripts and intermediate exams.

As a second step, participants attend the attendance module Sports Masseur, where they learn various massage techniques, taping, competition preparation and sports traumatology in 80 teaching units over 8 attendance days. In the area of massage, participants learn, among other things, the correct technique for preparatory, intermediate and fatigue-relieving massage, as well as self-massage and various massage techniques. We place particular emphasis on practical application, as our aim is for participants to be prepared to work as a sports masseur after the course.

Where does a sports masseur work?

Within your work as a fitness or personal trainer, you can offer sports massages as part of your trainer services, provided these are clearly defined as support for training (e.g. activation or regeneration). However, you are not permitted to carry out medical treatments.
The independent practice of sports massage alone is not permitted. In order to work independently as a masseur, you need a further qualification. This could be training as a medical masseur or therapeutic masseur.

What does a masseur earn?

There is a fairly broad salary range for massage therapists in the fitness and health prevention sector. The gross income in a permanent position ranges from €1,400 to €4,000 per month, depending on the employer. This is often supplemented by tips, which do not have to be taxed.

In self-employment, the hourly rate naturally depends on the services you offer. Between €50 and €120 per hour for sports massages is a realistic range. However, if you are self-employed, you may also need premises.
