What scope of professional activities can a Nutrition Coach in Austria perform?

In Austria nutrition coaches are only allowed to give nutritional recommendations to those persons who are physically healthy and who are looking for support, for example with transitioning to a more balanced and healthy diet, addressing weight lossor muscle gaining strategies.

Compared to diaetologists, nutrition coaches are not legally permitted to advise individuals with physical conditions or illnesses, such as digestive conditions or food allergies.

The creation of nutrition plans as a self-employed nutrition coach is not legally allowed. Giving an informative or educational event (such as a workshop, seminar, talk) as a form of knowledge-sharing is according to the § 2 GewO outside of the scope of application of the Trade Regulation Act, meaning that no specific business/trade license is required for this type of activity. As long as the tasks and activities do not interfere with the scope of diaetologists (§ 119 Abs.1 GewO), coaching with respect to nutrition and diet is allowed.

The terms und Ernährungstrainer sind in Deutschland dasselbe, wobei hier noch zum Medizinalfachberuf Diätassistenten unterschieden wird. Mit der Ausbildung zum Ernährungstrainer darf man in Deutschland gesunde Personen bei einer Ernährungsumstellung betreuen, oder auch Menschen beraten, die grundlegend ihre Ernährung verbessern möchten.

Where can I work with my Nutrition Coach education?

You can work on a self-employed basis with the Nutrition Coach A-License from Flexyfit as well as hold talks, workshops and seminars, or work with groups or directly with individual customers to share your nutrition.

If you prefer to work as an employee, you can consider fitness and wellness hotels, where you can serve as a resource for nutritional and diet advice for the staff and/or clients.
